About Me:
The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.

Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide.

Surfrider Foundation‘s Statewide Mission

Surfrider Foundation supports free & unrestricted access to the public beaches of the Gulf of Mexico & opposes construction of erosion response structures in or near the beach. Please treat any proposed amendment to Chapter 61 of the Texas Natural Resources Code (Open Beach Act) as a potential threat to your constituent's rights to use & enjoy beaches. The Surfrider Foundation opposes legislation that will harm the beach or the public's right to use & enjoy the beach. We will not support the limiting of public beach access via "pedestrian safe" beaches. We will also not support any bills that would change the statutory boundary delineating the public beach.

Surfrider Foundation is opposed to the construction or placement of erosion response structures on the beach. Scientific studies show structures such as geotubes, seawalls, jetties and groins can actually increase erosion and create erosion hot spots.

We support a secure funding source for the Coastal Erosion Planning & ResponseProgram (CEPRA). However, money should not be used for erosion response structures. Funds should be for beach re-nourishment, not structures to protect private investments. Surfrider Foundation will not support changes to CEPRA that would allow the funds to be used for geotubes or any other erosion response structures.

Finally Surfrider Foundation will not support and will actively oppose any legislation that would allow or encourage gambling casinos to be built in public parks on the Gulf.

International Surfing Day; Surf, Turtles & Inkfish!

To celebrate the first day of summer and International Surfing Day, Surfrider Foundation South Texas Chapter held our Second Annual Free Children's Surf Clinic. It was an outstanding success again this year with 60 or so children getting the chance to hit the water with their own instructor and catch some waves. The very flat Gulf of Mexico even cooperated by giving us one day of 1-2' surf which was perfect for the k… Continue
